Sunday Assembly communities are most well-known for their monthly "Sunday Assembly," which has live music, a program with a speaker and MC, social time with food, and FREE child care (yes, you read that right!). And we usually stream these on Zoom! We often have free lunch events after, with opportunities to win the coveted Best Chili, Best Cookie, or Best Soup trophies.
But we also typically have other events throughout the month that involve food, community service, physical activity, and opportunities to meet new people and stay connected with each other. Check us out on Meetup, and we'll see you there.
Sunday Assembly San Diego is an inclusive, non-religious community that meets to hear thoughtful talks, connect for service projects, sing songs, and generally celebrate life (with snacks). Assemblies are free to attend, and everyone is welcome. AND!! Free child care for ages 1.5 and up is available at every Assembly.
March's assembly speaker:
The Just-World Illusion
The Just-World Illusion is a cognitive bias that leads humans to assume that people typically get what they deserve. We all have examples of this bias in our lives, and blatant examples that seemingly disprove the idea that we are living in a just world.
The Just-World Hypothesis illusion is shielded from examples of injustice by three interconnected illusions: “divine justice” (which secular people tend to disbelieve); free will; and meritocracy.
Ethicist Dr. Aaron Rabinowitz will argue that the need to believe our world is mostly just is buried deep in our psyches and affects how we interact with others, sometimes on essential human levels. He will also share a taboo truth that can help us bust this internal myth and meet the needs of others in a way that helps them flourish.
Here's the Zoom link for anyone who wants to attend online.
Stay after the assembly for coffee, snacks, and our first annual PieFest event, where you can eat savory and sweet pie. Pie for LUNCH, you say? We say yes, indeed. Please RSVP for that separately here, and check out the details
The Bankers Hill Club features an accessible facility, including accessible parking spots and bathrooms. There is plenty of parking available.
Have a sip/bite at a local coffee shop, and get to know one another and share stories. We welcome all who welcome all! #LiveBetter
Join us for our various community service efforts, like coastal cleanups at our adopted beach at South Shores, on Mission Bay, bringing food to people experiencing homelessness, and other projects. We are always looking for new opportunities to #Help Often, so please make suggestions!
