How to Make Math not Suck

Math is often viewed as a boring, daunting, and frustrating subject, and many of us had bad experiences with math as a kid. But math is actually full of exploration, wonder, beauty, and play - it’s just not usually taught that way in school. Sarah Trebat-Leder, math PhD and Talent Strategy Director at Art of Problem Solving, will tell us about “mathematical playgrounds” and how they can help transform the way that kids (and adults!) view math. Along the way, we’ll learn what it is that mathematicians actually do and get to play a bit of the game Set.

If you are new to Zoom, please watch this handy video about how to join a meeting.

In the corner of the box with your face in it, you can choose to hide yourself from your view, so you won't find looking at yourself so distracting. Also, it'll make more space on your screen to see others.

You may (but don't have to) RSVP on Meetup.

Sunday Assembly San Diego is an inclusive non-religious community that meets monthly to hear inspirational talks, connect for service projects, sing songs and generally celebrate life. Assemblies are free to attend, and everyone is welcome. AND!! Free child care for ages 1.5 and up is available at every Assembly.

We are located at the Bankers Hill Club, which features an accessible facility, including accessible parking spots and bathrooms.

Stay after the assembly for coffee, snacks and to hang out with other assemblers, but please also join us for our Book/Puzzle/Game Swap, which you can RSVP for separately here.

We can't wait to see you all!
