Roundtable on Secular Spirituality

Many of us avoid the word “spiritual” because of its long-time association with supernaturalism and superstition. But the “S-word” has proven too useful to dismiss. Clinical researchers are now showing strong evidence that SPIRITUALITY – broadly and secularly defined as an awareness of a transcendent dimension in life and nature – is hard-wired in our brains and necessary for thriving. And focusing on spiritual commonalities is providing a bridge between secular, faith, and scientific communities, making it easier for them to work together on critical issues like Climate Change.

Because the Roundtable begins after the Feb. 16 Sunday Assembly, lunch will be available at 12:15 at no charge, and our usual lunch meet-up at Barrio Star is cancelled.

All SoCal atheist and secular communities (and any others interested except proselytizers) are invited to join us in the discussion. Prof. Clayton and Sunday Assembler Claudia Pearce facilitate.

Sunday Assembly San Diego is a new radically inclusive non-religious community that meets monthly to hear inspirational talks, connect for service projects, sing songs and generally celebrate life. Assemblies are free to attend, and everyone is welcome.
