The Future of Medicine
In a thought-provoking and humorous talk, Dr. David Bortz will explain how breakthroughs in stem cell research and other therapies will likely affect human longevity and change the direction of future medical advances.
About the Speaker
Dr. David Bortz has been practicing internal medicine since 1975, and is licensed to practice in the U.S., England, and South Africa. From South Africa, he was trained in the hospital where the first heart transplant was performed. David left South Africa because of apartheid, and their loss is our gain. He’s an Associate Professor of Medicine at UCSD as well as being in private practice. David's enthusiasm and warmth and funnybone (which is connected to the knee bone!) make him a wonderful physician as well as an engaging speaker.
About the Reader
Ian LeWinter is not going to read. After a motorcycle accident on the morning of his 50th birthday, Ian embraced this wake-up call as an opportunity to reconsider the path of his life. He decided that he wanted to live the second 50 years completely differently than the first 50. His journey into living a healthy lifestyle has been all at the same time; confounding, exhilarating, humorous and life affirming.
