Dark Matter
In the late 90’s, astronomers discovered that most of the Universe was made up of a form of “dark energy” not previously known to physics. Since that time we’ve made some progress, but real answers have remained out of reach. This is about to change: NASA and the European Space Agency have dedicated two new space telescopes to study dark energy. The first, Euclid, started its mission in 2023. The next, the Nancy Grace Roman Space Telescope, will launch in 2027. Eric Huff, Staff Scientist at Jet Propulsion Laboratory, will talk about what we know about dark energy today; how we may learn about the dark side of the Universe from these new missions; and why we may be on the verge of major new discoveries about the shape and possible fate of the Universe itself.
You may (but don't have to) RSVP on Meetup.
Stay after the assembly for coffee, snacks, and our 6th annual CHILI COOKOFF, where you can compete for a legit Best Chili trophy. The eating is totally free, but if you want to judge the entries, that will be $10, thankyouverymuch. Please RSVP for that separately here, and check out the details.

In the corner of the box with your face in it, you can choose to hide yourself from your view, so you won't find looking at yourself so distracting. Also, it'll make more space on your screen to see others.
