City Design and Crime Prevention

You might know that the field of crime science addresses the modern complexities of crime prevention and control, but you might not think about what that means for you as you live your life. Julie Wartell, Continuing Lecturer and Staff Research Associate in the Department of Urban Studies and Planning at UCSD, will describe how environmental design can affect the levels of crime in our neighborhoods, and how a crime science approach can reduce crime and increase everyone's safety.
For bonus content, Julie will address the following pressing concerns: Why are UK cops called Bobbies? Do more breweries = more crime? Is being a crime analyst for the police just like being on CSI? What the heck is a crime scientist, anyway?

Sunday Assembly San Diego is an inclusive non-religious community that meets monthly to hear inspirational talks, connect for service projects, sing songs and generally celebrate life. Assemblies are free to attend, and everyone is welcome. AND!! Free child care for ages 1.5 and up is available at every Assembly.

We are located at the Bankers Hill Club, which features an accessible facility, including accessible parking spots and bathrooms.
