Seeing in the Dark: Illicit trades & the Cultivation of Creativity in the Social Sciences
Many illicit trades are outlawed for good reason: they ruin lives and imperil sustainable economic development on massive scales. For that and other reasons, illicit traders and black marketeers often keep their activities in the dark. Dr. Topher McDougal, Professor in Economic Development & Peacebuilding at the Kroc School of Peace Studies at the University of San Diego, will share and reflect critically on the various methods for detecting, quantifying, and characterizing clandestine economic activity that are covered in his new book project, Seeing in the Dark.
You may (but don't have to) RSVP on Meetup.
Some of the best community time is staying after the assembly for coffee, snacks and to hang out with other assemblers, so please do. AND!! We have a lunch event after the assembly as well: Pasta La Vista, Baby. It's a horrible pun, but hopefully good eats. Please RSVP for that separately here.
And here's the Zoom link for anyone who want to attend online:

If you are new to Zoom, please watch this handy video about how to join a meeting.
In the corner of the box with your face in it, you can choose to hide yourself from your view, so you won't find looking at yourself so distracting. Also, it'll make more space on your screen to see others.
For those on Zoom, here's a link to the program with lyrics!
