The Blob: Underwater Zombie Apocalypse
What do you get when you combine an unprecedented ocean warming event, a kelp species with a delicate reproductive strategy, and a native invertebrate species that can go months without eating? Essentially, an underwater zombie apocalypse. Through a series of unfortunate events starting in 2015 and exacerbated by climate change, northern California experienced a collapse of coastal kelp forests and the ultimate closure of a culturally and economically important recreational abalone fishery. Jenny Hofmeister from California Department of Fish and Wildlife will tell us how this perfect storm came to be, and about the tireless efforts of scientists and science enthusiasts to bring this ecosystem back to its former glory.

Sunday Assembly San Diego is an inclusive non-religious community that meets monthly to hear inspirational talks, connect for service projects, sing songs and generally celebrate life. Assemblies are free to attend, and everyone is welcome.
We are located at the Bankers Hill Club, which features an accessible facility, including accessible parking spots and bathrooms.
Stay after the assembly for coffee, snacks and to hang out with other assemblers, but for lunch, we are eating at Barrio Star after the Assembly! That info is in a separate Meetup event.
We can't wait to see you all!
