Unraveling the mechanisms of synapse formation and axon regeneration: the awesome power of C. elegans genetics
Model organisms, in particular the roundworm C. elegans, have played an instrumental role in understanding nervous systems, including synaptic formation and how neurons respond to injury. Studying them has allowed researchers to develop tools and techniques to study the nervous system in ways that are not feasible in humans or other large mammals. Dr. Yishi Jin, professor of neurobiology and of cellular and molecular medicine at UCSD, will share how the insights gained from this research is being applied to understand human genetic variation, illness, and injury, and develop treatments.
The Bankers Hill Club features an accessible facility, including accessible parking spots and bathrooms.
